Hundreds Rally at Can'tor "Townhall" in Richmond

Icon September 1, 2011 - 03:38 Where are the jobs, Rep. Cantor? Hundreds of Rep. Cantor's constituents tried to find out at Rep. Cantor's "Constituent Advisory Council" meeting tonight in Richmond but were left with no answer. Rep. Cantor continued his practice of avoiding talking about jobs in his district by not holding public events or town halls over the entire Congressional August recess period. We've all had enough of reckless political brinkmanship -- we need responsible leaders who put our jobs above theirs.

Well, one shortcut corporate America has been using is to write that legislation themselves. That's where Alec comes in. Not the good kind of Alec, (Baldwin), but the American Legislative Exchange Council.

Sandra Cook on the Debt Ceiling: We Will Not Quietly Submit

Icon August 1, 2011 - 21:12 Frustrated. Furious. Fed up.   I don’t know about you, but I am disgusted about what is going on in Washington with the debt ceiling. Like most Americans, I have followed the debt ceiling circus daily for the last several weeks.  I am appalled to watch our country’s future be held hostage by conservative Tea Partiers who have no problem leading us to the brink of disaster. While I am relieved that it looks like our elected officials have arrived at some kind of compromise, my anger over how close we came to disaster remains.

10 things the new Consumer Protection Bureau can do to protect consumers

Icon July 22, 2011 - 17:13 Thanks to Wall Street reform legislation, The United States Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) begins work on July 21, 201. The Bureau has plenty to do and plenty of power to do it, even without a director in place. Here are ten items that the CFPB can start right now using existing authority. 1. Mortgages: Stop mortgage companies from charging illegal fees, keeping sloppy records of what people owe, forcing homeowners into overpriced insurance, or rushing to foreclose before considering home-saving
