The Virginia Organizing Project is a statewide grassroots social justice organization that works on multiple issues with a diverse group of people. VOP is seeking applicants willing to work as interns across the state of Virginia. Interns will assist VOP organizers with a variety of tasks related to VOP’s public policy reform priorities and local campaigns.
Interns should have a strong desire to work toward a more fair and just Virginia and a willingness to learn new skills. In the Fall of 2008, interns will be focused primarily upon activities related to VOP’s non-partisan voter education work as well as the organization’s commitment to ensuring that all people have access to quality, affordable heath care.
Interns will develop a workplan with their supervisor, which will list the activities and tasks with which the interns will be engaged. The workplan will also include the number of hours per week that the intern will work and the duration of the internship, and will clearly state how often the intern will meet with (either in person or over the phone) her/his supervisor. At the conclusion of the internship, the intern will write a brief summary of her/his time with VOP.
Internships are unpaid unless other arrangements are made; expenses incurred in the completion of workplan activities (gasoline, parking, etc.) will be reimbursed with a proper receipt.
The VOP internship should strike a balance between the intern’s learning and the work in which VOP is currently engaged. Interns should be exposed to a number of diverse activities within the organization, such as the opportunity to attend chapter meetings, legislative meetings, fundraising events, and other VOP activities which may not tie directly into the intern’s specific projects.
