Let’s Ban the Box on U.S. Job Applications!

Will you take a moment to support Senators Warner and Kaine and contact the White House to ask them to ban the box on federal employment applications? You can contact the White House by clicking here.
Virginia Organizing has been working hard in localities across Virginia to ban the box. Many cities have banned the box locally and Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe signed an executive order in April to ban the box on all state job applications.
In addition, the Mayor of Charlottesville agreed to write letters to 100 local businesses asking them to ban the box on their job applications. Banning the box helps people get jobs, provides opportunity for a second chance, and can lead to decreased recidivism.
Has your locality banned the box yet? Will you ask your local government officials to consider a proposal to ban the box on public job applications? Will you ask your mayor or local government to write to small business owners and ask them to ban the box? Virginia Organizing is happy to help you make your case! Contact your local organizer for more information.
Thank you for all your great work to create a more just Virginia for all people.
Sincerely,

Sandra A. Cook
Chairperson
